Fairfield County

The City of Stamford is located in Fairfield County in southwestern Connecticut. The county is part of the greater New York City Metropolitan Area, which also includes the surrounding suburbs in New York and New Jersey, encompassing 20 counties in total. Like the entire region, Fairfield County is intricately tied both economically and culturally to New York City.

Stamford

The City of Stamford occupies a total area of approximately 38 square miles and has a population in excess of 120,000. It is comprised of several neighborhoods, each with its own distinct characteristics, generally defined as the Central Business District (CBD), Stamford South/South End Peninsula, Glenbrook, Springdale and North Stamford.

  • UBS, RBS and Purdue Pharma are headquartered in the CBD. XL America and Pitney Bowes, among others, are located in the south end of Stamford; while GE Capital and General Re are located in North Stamford
  • Recently, there has been a significant investment made in the Stamford Town Center, Fairfield County’s third largest regional mall, consisting of 900,000 square feet of retail space including Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s
  • There has also been significant residential construction with the addition of both condominium and rental apartments throughout the area, including a large residential development by Donald Trump
  • Downtown Stamford offers a broad array of upscale shops, restaurants, hotels, arts and entertainment
  • Stamford is home to the University of Connecticut-Stamford campus, the Rich Forum, the Palace Theatre, as well as an excellent selection of public and private schools.
